The night of 18th of June 2018 was a pot of mixed emotions for Reet and I.

On one hand the excitement, anticipation and exhilaration snarled while the feeling of fear lingered in our minds as it was the first time that we were travelling abroad, without our parents. After bidding our parents adieu we sauntered towards the immigration, we were already missing them. On 19th of June we met the rest of the group of Indians travelling for the SGU-summer internship MED-VET program to Grenada in New York. We instantly befriended each other and spent some quality time together.

On 20th June, we finally reached the SGU campus. We were marveling the beauty of the campus. It was situated right beside the beach and the view from our dormitories was a scintillating one. Soon we were introduced to our roommates and I was pleased to share my room with a Canadian girl who was extremely sweet and helpful. Soon we mingled with the students holding different nationalities and drew knowledge about their respective cultures. The next day our classes commenced. The classes held were not only stimulating but also concrete. We were shown the different organs from the cadaver, asked to hold them in our hands, make sutures on them which all of us passionately did. We were also exposed to the ultrasound and microbiology labs, where we learnt a lot about the intricacies of the human body. These classes were held every day and our schedule was certainly hectic. We got a taste of our lives which was to unfold when we would actually become doctors. Extra-Curricular activities were also organized for us to give us a respite from the busy schedule. We went to the beach several times which was extremely tranquil and serene. We were taken for hiking on a slushy hill which was indeed adventurous. In the blink of our eyes the days passed and finally we encountered the last day, the day on which our examination was held. Our Professors were amiable and humorous but they wanted to test the knowledge which we were taking back home from St. Georges University. We wrote the exam and were satisfied with the way we wrote it. In the evening we were awarded and given certificates for successfully completing the program. The next day we began our journey back home, to India.

This trip is certainly the most remarkable one of my life so far , for I met new people, learnt new things and also became independent and gained the courage to sustain in any condition alone. Last but not the least, I would like to thank Chetna Sabhrawal Ma’am and our esteemed school , Ahlcon International for providing me with this wonderful opportunity.
